There have been some exciting developments at Harpenden Dental Centre that will improve our service to all our patients. Firstly, we have a new dentist, Emiliano Zanaboni, who has completed his Masters in periodontology (gum treatment) and also has a specialist interest in oral surgery (implant dentistry and complicated tooth extraction). Our principal, Manjeet has gained a place on the prestigious MClinDent at Guy’s Hospital to become a specialist in endodontology (root canal treatment). Manjeet will continue working at the practice and is likely to extend his hours on certain days.
We can now make ceramic fillings, crowns and veneers onsite using a state of the art Cerec 3D machine, meaning only one visit is now required. Finally we are offering Invisalign, the latest technique in adult cosmetic orthodontics, an almost invisible technology which in most cases replaces old fixed braces.
New Patients. We would also like to take this opportunity to let you know that we are taking on new patients and at present are maintaining our special offer to new patients of a free consultation. We would like to encourage you to refer any friends or relatives that may be thinking of trying out a new dentist to take advantage of this offer without any obligation.
Details of the practice developments are given below. If you would like any further information on these or any other topics please feel free to browse our website or ask at your next check up.
Cerec 3D This state of the art piece of equipment means that we can now make natural coloured ceramic fillings, veneers and crowns onsite. A special optical imaging unit creates a 3D image of the tooth negating the need for full mouth impressions. From this with the use of Computer Aided Design Technology the new restoration can be designed and then milled in the Cerec Milling Machine. These restorations can be made and fitted in a single visit so that a follow up appointment is not required.
The machine also provides a fantastic alternative to amalgam. Instead of silver fillings the tooth can be restored with ceramic inlays or onlays. These restorations by far supersede the old white filling material (known as composite) for restoring broken or discoloured teeth.
Invisalign This is an amazing technology designed in America to straighten teeth for adults. It involves wearing virtually invisible aligners that gradually move the teeth to the desired position. Not only are the aligners almost impossible to detect when you are wearing them but also you get to see the results of what Invisalign will give you prior to commencing with the treatment. This is achieved from the use of a great software package that shows the movements of your teeth over the course of your treatment. It also informs you of exactly how many aligners you will need to wear and how long the treatment is likely to take.
Invisalign provides a wonderful alternative for adults that wish to get their teeth straightened but dread the idea of wearing ‘train track’ braces.
Dr Emiliano Zanaboni graduated from the University of Turin, College of Dentistry, Italy in 1997 with 110/110 cum laude (the highest honours grade). He completed a two-year full time program in Implant Dentistry at New York University in 2000 having won a scholarship place. In 2004, he received his degree of Academic Expert (AE) in Gnathology from Donau University, Vienna. Dr Zanaboni received his MClinDent in Periodontology (with distinction) in 2008 from the Royal London Hospital. He has been invited to become a Mentor in Implant Dentistry for the Academy of Dental Implantology. Since qualification Dr Zanaboni has combined periods of intense study with general private practice and multidisciplinary specialist practice both in Italy and in the UK. His special interest is in Implant Dentistry (surgical and restorative) and Periodontology. He is an active member of many professional societies including the Association of Dental Implantology UK and the Academy of Osseointegration. He lectures regularly in the UK, Europe and the USA.
