Root Canal Treatment
A root canal treatment (RCT) is primarily a filling that is in the root of the tooth. This procedure is performed if the tooth has died or has an infection as a result of either trauma or dental decay. The process involves removal of the necrotic nerve and blood supply tissue within the canals of the tooth, cleansing of the canals so that no bacteria are left behind and then finally filling and sealing of the canals.

The dentist uses magnification for this surgery, which is especially important so that one has a complete view of the inside of the tooth.

One of the prerequisites for success of an RCT is for the canals to be filled exactly to the end, ideally achieved with an apex locator which allows the dentist to work in all three dimensions.

At Harpenden Dental Centre rubber dams are used routinely for all root treatments to isolate the tooth to prevent bacteria contaminating it during treatment.

Here at Harpenden Dental Centre we use all the latest equipment and techniques to provide you with best possible preparation, cleaning and filling of the canals. Manjeet has a special interest in endodontics and has been on numerous postgraduate courses to develop his expertise in this field.
