Dental crowns
Dental crowns are fitted onto the surface of broken or damaged teeth to rebuild their structure and function as well as restoring and improving appearance. A crown can either be gold, porcelain bonded to gold or fully ceramic.

The process of making a crown begins with first preparing the tooth, usually by trimming it down in size. An impression is then taken which is sent to a laboratory to create the crown. Whilst the crown is being made, a temporary crown is fitted to the tooth.

At Harpenden Dental Centre we utilise the best materials and liaise closely with the patient and laboratory at every stage of the process to ensure an excellent result.

We also make ceramic crowns at the practice while you wait using our Cerec 3D machine. This allows us to manufacture crowns within minutes without the need for conventional impressions. The Cerec 3D machine has an optical camera, which the dentist uses to take a 3D image of the tooth. The crown is then designed and milled after which time it can be cemented onto the tooth.
