Teeth Whitening
This is the process of gradually whitening teeth over a period of time to create a healthier-looking whiter smile.

Tooth whitening gel is put into the bleaching tray which is worn by the patient for two to three hours in the evening for a period of 7-14 nights or until such time as they are satisfied with the new shade of the teeth. The procedure involves three appointments at the clinic. Firstly there is an initial consultation and taking of an impression of the mouth for making the tailor made bleaching tray which is constructed at a laboratory for optimum fit. A second appointment is then used to fit the tray to ensure comfort. At this stage the patient takes home the tooth whitening gel to begin the whitening process. Finally, one to two weeks later, there is a follow up appointment to ensure that the procedure has been successful and the teeth are of the desired shade.

If the patient has naturally sensitive teeth, bleaching can cause some extra sensitivity. Patients should also note that bleaching is only effective on natural teeth and any restorations such as veneers etc will remain at their original colour. These can be re-made later to fit with the new shade of the natural teeth.

Although in-surgery techniques are utilised elsewhere, in our experience, the method of home-whitening that we use creates the most uniform results with the least risk of sensitivity and is the most cost effective for the patient.
