Lip enhancement & dermal fillers
Dermal fillers can be used to restore the fullness of the lips that have become thinner and wrinkled with age. They can also be used to restore or define facial contours such as curves of the cheek which flatten with time, the chin or the brow of the nose to augment subtle bumps. The treatment is done by injection typically under the same local anaesthetic we use routinely for dentistry. The dermal filler is introduced into each target area. The effects typically last for 9 - 12 months. This may be longer when injected deeper into the skin to restore volume but for more superficial areas such as lip or wrinkle augmentation and in the treatment of areas subject to considerable movement the effect lasts for about 6 months. Treatment takes about 45 minutes and the results are typically visible immediately.
Side effects may include localized temporary bruising that can be reduced by the use of ice after the injection and some swelling especially when lips are injected. There will be a thorough discussion of the process and side effects when you meet for your consultation prior to the procedure.
